Andrew,

thank you very much for your inktag removal page. This totally saved my day: Today I bought two fleece jackets for my daughters who are going to leave for a camping trip in a few minutes. Imagine my disappointment at home when I found that one of the jackets still had a security tag left in it (surprisingly or after reading your page maybe not so surprisingly at all it didn't trip the door alarm). Doh!

Then I thought, somebody else must have run into this problem before as well. So after a google search for "inktag removal", I found your page on the first results page. I skimmed over the description and looked at the photos thinking: "This doesn't look so difficult". I took my small hacksaw and started sawing away at the tip of the cone while rotating it. It took only seconds for the tip to come off. Under it I found another spherical peace of plastic with a tiny hole in the top. After a bit of gentle prodding and tugging at it with a tiny screwdriver, it came off and revealed the same mechanism that you described. The spring just popped out after removing the protecting half sphere. Turning it around and tapping against the desk made the shim, balls and cup come out as well. And off was the tag!

The whole procedure took less than 10 minutes. Wow! Definitely beats a 45 minute drive to the store and another 45 minutes back. In this case I wouldn't have made it in time for my daughter's departure and she wouldn't have been able to use her new fleece jacket. So thanks again for your page.

Hi, there -

Thank you so much for your webpage on how to remove those stupid ink tag security devices from department store clothing. I purchased a very nice, frilly, ultra-feminine blouse today for what will probably be one of my only "dress down" days at work tomorrow at my highly conservative job (I'm moving into a new office). When I got home, I went to try on the blouse to show off to my husband, an attempt that was followed by several expletives when I figured out the department store clerk left the security tag on the blouse. Since it was Sunday, the department store closed early (of course). I was SO AGGRAVATED, especially since this was the SECOND time in less than a year that this had happened to me at this particular store. If I didn't have this blouse to wear, I'd have no choice but to wear a suit to work on "moving day" tomorrow - ugh! I was bound and determined to get this thing off.

I went to Yahoo! and did a search on "how to remove ink tags from clothing." Your page was the first that came up and your instructions worked like an absolute charm. I didn't have a dremel tool or fine sawblade on hand, so I used a heavily serrated, fine steak knife to saw through the top part of the plastic cone (which didn't take long to do) and it worked just fine (and my steak knife is fine as well).

Thank you for saving me on my one and only dress down day at work. The added bonus is that if this ever happens to me again (which it will), I'll know exactly what to do!

(Feel free to use my testimonial on your webpage if you like.)

Andrew,

Thank you for posting the "ink tag removal" info.

I have a lame job which requires me to wear a tie everyday. However, tomorrow is "Fun Day," and the theme is March Madness, which means I can wear jeans and sneakers, as long as we have an NCAA shirt on. So, I went to the mall tonight and purchased an NCAA t-shirt, just so I can dress down tomorrow.

The clerk, who was new and confused, forgot to remove the security ink tag. While the ink tag on my Tarheels shirt was slightly different than yours, the info you provided worked perfectly. I used my grinding wheel to remove the top portion of the plastic dome (the "cone-shaped" side), and discovered a spring, which I was able to remove. Under the spring were 4 ball bearings, which held the pin in place (vertical). I turned the device upside down... the ball bearings fell out... and the "cone-shaped" end slid off with ease. I am so happy, because I don't have time to return the shirt to the store.

I searched and searched the web for a solution, and I almost gave up. Then, I finally found the info you provided... without it, I could not have dressed down tomorrow.

Thanks again, Mike
